Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Tactics How to Build a Squad in Rainbow Six Tactics

Fifteen operators, four slots, and no room for four of the same job.

Squad Building

Squad building is the loadout screen of Rainbow Six Tactics. You do not bring a gun doctor and a sight. You bring four people who have to cover intel, entry, space, and the objective. Ubisoft Paris is shipping 15 operators from Rainbow Six Siege. You deploy 4. That ratio is the whole puzzle.

This guide is the practical version of the roles breakdown and the sister page to the squad planner. Names below stick to the nine operators actually shown in the gamescom brief: Ash, Zofia, Nøkk, Glaz, Doc, Montagne, Sledge, Finka, and Twitch. The other six exist, but they are not public. Do not theory-craft ghosts.

The four jobs

Every mission, even a simple eliminate, asks for four jobs. You can double up, but you cannot skip.

Intel. Drones plus anyone who reveals or disables. Twitch is the confirmed specialist. Nøkk is the confirmed quiet body. If you leave HQ without a recon plan, you are Breaching blind. See how to Breach.

Entry. Someone who creates a hole that did not exist. Ash and Sledge are the obvious pair. Zofia can play in this neighborhood depending on how her kit translates. Entry is not “the person who kills first.” Entry is architecture.

Space. Someone who owns a doorway after the hole exists. Montagne is the confirmed tank. Without a space player, your four-person Breach becomes four people sharing one fatal funnel.

Support / closer. Doc and Finka keep the campaign roster alive. Glaz finishes across a sightline you just opened. On hostage maps the closer is a medic. On HVT maps the closer is a fragger. On bomb maps the closer is whoever can hold the site after the noise.

How to play is the loop these jobs live inside. HQ and training is where injured support players sit out a week and break your template.

Templates that already make sense

These are briefing templates, not a post-launch meta. Swap freely when the missing six operators are named.

Loud site take

Ash or Sledge, Montagne, Twitch, Doc. You open a wall, fill the door, fry a gadget, and have a medic for the trade. This is the default Breach class.

Precision opening

Glaz, Nøkk, Twitch, Finka. You see, you slip, you disable, you keep people standing. Better for hostage rooms and for players who hate a four-person stack.

Hybrid campaign four

Sledge, Ash, Montagne, Doc. Two ways through a wall, a shield, a medic. Ugly, reliable, and friendly to permadeath if that rule ships as IGN described.

Intel-heavy recon

Twitch, Nøkk, Glaz, Zofia. You pay for information and pick your fights. Weak if the map forces a raw hold after the Breach.

The squad compositions page ranks these as pre-launch reads. The operator tier list ranks individuals. Individuals lose to a hole in the four jobs.

Building around maps, not favorites

IGN and Inven reported locations from city centers and airports to warehouses, oil platforms, Egyptian ruins, and a Danish prison. Mission types will reuse those shells. A squad that only wins warehouses will fail a prison with long corridors where Glaz is suddenly the star and Sledge is a luxury.

Ask three questions before you lock the four:

  1. What is the objective if the first room is clean?
  2. What gadget on the defender side ruins my Breach (traps, shields, cameras)?
  3. Who sits out if one operator is injured in HQ?

Question 3 is why you should learn eight operators, not four. The roster is 15 for a reason.

Siege habits that will get you punished

  • Bringing only attackers because they “frag.” Tactics missions include hostage and bomb rules.
  • Ignoring Montagne because shields are unfashionable in Siege ranked. Here the shield is a turn you do not have to spend on a corpse.
  • Treating Doc as a last pick. If operators can die for the rest of the campaign, Doc is a strategic resource, not a comfort pick.
  • Forcing Nøkk onto a map that wants two hard breaches. Quiet is a tool, not a personality.

A simple lock-in process

  1. Read the operation brief in HQ. If you do not have a brief yet, assume mixed interiors and pack hybrid.
  2. Fill jobs, not names: intel, entry, space, closer.
  3. Check duplicate gadgets. Two hard breachers and no medic is a common trailer-fan mistake.
  4. Check injury list. See HQ and training.
  5. Write the Breach plan in one sentence. If you cannot, your squad is a list, not a plan.

When the missing six operators drop, come back and rebuild the templates. Until then, four jobs and nine names are enough to stop you from taking a meme stack into the Closed Test. For the current name-by-name kit notes, stay on confirmed operators and the full roster overview.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How many operators can I bring on a mission?

Four. The campaign roster is fifteen, but each deployment is a four-person squad.

Should I copy Siege meta squads?

Only at the gadget level. Tactics is commander-view and turn-based. Use jobs from this page, not ranked-stack muscle memory.

What if my favorite operator is not in the confirmed nine?

Wait. Ubisoft said 15 iconic Siege operators; only nine were shown. The roster will update when the last six are named.

Is there a recommended beginner squad?

Sledge, Ash, Montagne, Doc — two entries, a shield, a medic. Open the squad planner to copy that row.
